SprayElectroCooling Project
– High Efficiency Heat Dissipation and Energy Conservation for Ultra-High Power Electronic Devices Based on Flashing Spray –
SprayElectroCooling is a project, funded under the National Action call: Bilateral and Multilateral R&T Cooperation between Greece and China, focusing on the development of novel cooling technologies for high-power electronics that exceed a heat dissipation capacity of 5 MW/m2 and a heat transfer coefficient of 80 kW/m2K.
To this end, a closed spray cooling configuration is being developed that
- complies with the need of small packaging volume
- provides modularity in use, enabling retrofitting capabilities
- enables high responsivity of power electronics
- utilizes IoT control and monitoring of components attaining high COP
SprayElectroCooling aims at
- Improving the energy density of the industrial sector such as, Electric Vehicle Industry, as the proposed innovative cooling configuration complies with critical technological challenges related to future development of Variable Speed Drives such as
-
- operation in high-temperature environment due to high electric power deliverance
- new packaging and interconnection technologies (high temperature properties, small volumes etc)
- sophisticated control platforms and integration of self-powered sensors with wireless communication (lifetime monitoring, and prediction of critical components etc)
- increase of capacitors’ lifetime as it varies exponentially with temperature (for every 10 oC drop in the temperature of the hottest spot inside the capacitor, its life almost doubles)
- Supporting the increase of the energy saving potential regarding Large Data Centres and Servers, by lowering their working temperature and thus strengthening their safety and reliability.
- Increasing the unit capacity of wind turbines and guarantee safe and reliable operation by avoiding failure of the turbine as the heat produced by components rises significantly.
The project SprayElectroCooling – High Efficiency Heat Dissipation and Energy Conservation for Ultra-High Power Electronic Devices Based on Flashing Spray – was co‐financed by the European Regional Development Fund of the European Union and Greek national funds through the Operational Program Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, under the National Action call: Bilateral and Multilateral R&T Cooperation between Greece and China (project code: T7ΔKI-00022)
